Senator wants to fine lawmakers for overtime sessions

Metro

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A new bill would impose a hefty fine on state lawmakers for every day they remain in overtime legislative sessions.

State Senate Majority Leader Rodney Tom tells the Tacoma “News Tribune” he plans to introduce the measure next year.

The bill would fine lawmakers $250 for every day they remain in overtime.

Tom says the bill’s goal is to provide greater incentive to avoid overtime sessions like last month’s special session to hammer out a state budget.
