BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Sewer smoke testing starts today for the Lettered Streets Neighborhood.
City Public Works crews will be putting smoke into the sewer system to find potential flow problems in sewers identified as high flow areas.
Crews will be working from West Holly Street to East Illinois Street and from ‘D’ Street to ‘G’ Street through Friday.
Crews will be working from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
The smoke should all flow out through roof vents.
If smoke does enters a home, homeowners are advised to open windows and doors and contact one of the on-site workers.
The smoke is not toxic and does not stain.
Residents impacted by the testing will be notified one day before any testing takes place.
