BELLINGHAM, Wash. – People can once again collect shellfish on nearly all of Whatcom County’s beaches.
Several areas have been closed to shellfish harvesting because of paralytic toxins.
The state Department of Health has reopened many of those beaches, however Portage Bay remains closed and butter and varnish clams are off limits in some spots.
People should check the state’s shellfish closure website before harvesting.
