Skagit River bridge girders arrive

Metro News

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Transportation says construction crews are on schedule to have the temporary span along the I-5 Skagit River bridge at Mount Vernon replaced by early September.

Eight huge concrete girders have been transported to the site and crews have begun to put them into place.

The new section will permanently replace the span of the bridge that collapsed on May 23 after a semi-truck carrying an over-height load struck overhead support beams.
