MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon has taken the first step toward forming an alliance with PeaceHealth and UW Medical Center.
PeaceHealth Northwest Network’s CEO Nancy Steiger says the partnership will mean more patients in Skagit County will be able to get the treatments they need without going to Seattle.
The boards of commissioners at Skagit Valley Hospital and PeaceHealth approved a letter of intent last week which outlines the proposed alliance.
The boards voted in late August to begin talks on the partnership.
The letter states that Skagit Valley Hospital will retain control of its operations and finances, and doctors and staff will remain employees of Skagit Regional Health.
It could still take up to a year for the two sides to develop and reach a final agreement.
