BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The organization that puts on of Ski to Sea is considering making some changes to the race.
Whatcom Events is forming a task force to look at possible course changes.
Race Manager Mel Monkelis says there are no anticipated course changes for next year’s race, but possibly the one after that in 2015.
Ski to Sea has gone through a number of changes since it began in 1971.
Monkelis says they want to look at the mountain bike and running legs of the race.
Some ideas include moving the mountain bike leg onto the Galbraith Mountain trails.
He says they’ve also known for years that they need to find a better path along the Mount Baker Highway to replace the grueling 8 mile downhill pavement run.
The task force will be a small group of people, ideally representing race management, the City of Bellingham, Whatcom County, local businesses, law enforcement and racers.
Anyone who would like be a part of the task force can contact Whatcom Events.
