SEATTLE, Wash – A U.S. soldier will avoid the death penalty for his role in the deaths of 16 Afghan civilians.
Attorneys for Robert Bales have reached a deal for a guilty plea in the case.
He was charged with 17 counts of murder and more charges of assault and attempted murder in the killings last year.
He is currently being held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
