OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee is instructing the heads of state agencies to identify which areas of the government will need to be shut down if lawmakers can’t agree on a budget by the end of the current fiscal cycle on June 30.
Officials say it’s possible that thousands of state employees will receive notices of temporary layoffs as early as next week.
Inslee spokesman David Postman tells the “Seattle Times” if the government shuts down, everybody in Washington will feel it.
The Legislature is now in its second special session, after having failed to reach a budget compromise during the regular session and the special session that followed.
