MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -Washington state will pay $9 million to the families of the victims of Isaac Zamora.
Zamora shot and killed six people in Skagit County in 2008 after the Washington State Department of Corrections erred by classifying him as a non-violent offender.
A lawsuit filed on behalf of the victims’ families contended the corrections department failed to properly supervise Zamora, whose victims included a sheriff’s deputy.
Zamora is serving life in confinement after pleading guilty in 2009 to charges that included aggravated murder.
