BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Damaging winds battered the northwest Washington coast, toppling trees and knocking down power lines last night.
The National Weather Service issued a high-wind warnings for last night into this morning for a region that stretched from the Canadian border to south of Olympia, saying gusts could reach up to 60 mph.
Several power outages were reported in the Whatcom County.
About 800 local customers were with out power at the storm’s height.
Part of Chuckanut Drive was briefly closed south of Bellingham due to a fallen tree.
The National Weather Service had forecast the windstorm to have the potential to be the strongest September windstorms on record.
