BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Students at Bellingham Technical College can finally begin their fall classes now that a six day teachers strike is over.

The union representing faculty members at BTC has approved a new contract with the college’s administration.

The new contract includes a 3 percent pay increase, pay raises for adjunct faculty, workload improvements and no changes in language regarding the covert surveillance of faculty members.

Salaries, workload and surveillance were the faculty members’ major sticking points.

Negotiators reached the three year contract agreement Saturday night and it was ratified yesterday.

The college will be open on regular schedule today.

Union leaders say the new contract is the first step toward dramatically changing the relationship between college employees and the administration.
