Volleyball: WWU sweeps road trip

NAMPA, Id. – Opposite-side hitter Jennica McPherson  had a match-high 10 kills and 11 digs as Western Washington University completed a sweep of a tough two-match road trip with a, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18, victory over Northwest Nazarene University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Johnson Sports Center on the NNU campus.

The Vikings, ranked No.10 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 17-3 overall and second in the GNAC standings at 10-2. They began the junket Thursday with a 3-1 triumph at Central Washington.

NNU, which had a three-match winning streak snapped with just its second loss in the last eight matches, fe1l to 13-6 overall and 9-4 in GNAC play. Jenna Caywood led the Crusaders with nine kills.

The win was WWU’s ninth straight over the Crusaders.

McPherson had four kills in a 9-2 run that the Vikings used to close out game three and the match after it was tied for the 11th time at 16-16.

Kayla Erickson had eight kills and a match-high five blocks for WWU. Kelsey Moore and Emily Boerger each had seven kills

Libero Samantha Hutchinson  had 18 digs and setter Taylor Dillard  contributed 33 assists for Vikings, both match bests.

The Vikings host Western Oregon on Thursday, Nov. 7 (7 p.m.), in a GNAC contest at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU camus.
