Vote expected tonight on Lake Whatcom phosphorus rules

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Whatcom County Council could approve new rules tonight meant to stop phosphorus pollution from getting into lake Whatcom and the Lake Whatcom Watershed.

The rules would forbid some types of buildings on the watershed, and would require home builders to buy expensive storm water treatment systems.

The rules would also bring an end to the eight year moratorium on small lot development in the watershed.

The council will discuss the rules at their morning committee meeting today, with a final vote set for tonight.
