Weekend thunderstorms pose fire threat

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Thunderstorms are expected in Whatcom County this weekend and the National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch.

Meteorologist Josh Smith says lightning could be a problem for Whatcom County.

The fire weather watch is in effect tonight until Sunday night.

People living in wooded areas of east Whatcom County should use a sprinkler system on their lawn to keep the ground moist.

Smith says there’s a lot of dry fuel on the ground, so people should clear away any dry brush or debris from their roof and around their homes.
