BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University ranks 13th in the nation for graduating students who go on to earn a PhD.
Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Steven Vanderstaay says the Survey of Earned Doctorates ranked the school in the top 2-percent with nearly four hundred Western graduates earning research doctorates between 2002 and 2011.
He credits the ranking to the school’s long standing practice of involving students with professors’ research during their undergraduate years.
The ranking will help Western continue to encourage students to achieve doctorate degrees and give professors more sway with national organizations when applying for research grants.
