Whatcom County Executive Jack Louws says the county is on sound financial footing.
Louws gave his “State of the County” address earlier this week.
The county has gotten leaner over the last five years, shedding about 200 employees and millions of dollars from its budget.
Louws says his main concern is that the county may be losing sight of its long-term vision by using unrealized revenue to maintain current services.
Louws says the county needs to invest in the infrastructure needed to create higher-paying jobs.
