BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom is in the top ten counties with the highest enrollment in the state Health Care Exchange.
The enrollment report for Washington’s Health Plan Finder website for October shows Whatcom County had the seventh highest percentage of people signed up for Medicaid or qualified health plans in the first month of open enrollment.
Nearly 2,000 people have signed up for Medicaid and nearly 300 have signed up for qualified health plans.
Spokesperson Bethany Frey says that is about 3.9 percent of the county.
The state expect enrollment numbers to pick up in late November and December.
In order to receive coverage starting January 1, enrollment and payment must be completed by December 23.
