Women’s hoops: WWU is top GNAC school in Division II Bulletin Poll

PORTLAND, Ore. – With a No.11 ranking in the Women’s Division II Bulletin, Western Washington University was the only Great Northwest Athletic Conference school ranked in the preseason top-25 according to the monthly publication that covers NCAA DII women’s basketball.

Receiving the nod as the top team in the WDIIB poll was Bentley (Mass.), with Clayton State (Ga.) picked No. 2.

Last year, WWU won the GNAC regular-season and tournament titles, the West Regional championship and reached the national semifinals. Carmen Dolfo, the Vikings’ coach, was the league and national Coach of the Year.

Simon Fraser was the lone GNAC school listed in the ‘others to watch’ category, landing at the top of the list and narrowly missing inclusion in the WDIIB preseason top-25.

Amongst the WDIIB Super 16 Selections representing the West region is Bobbi Knudsen of Montana State Billings. The senior guard was a first team All-GNAC selection a season ago, and finished second in the conference in scoring with an average of 17.8 points per game.

Receiving honorable mention Super 16 notice was Megan Hingston of Northwest Nazarene, who led the GNAC in scoring in 2012-13 with 18.6 points per contest.
