WSDOT to drop quotas for white women contractors

AP News

SEATTLE, Wash. – ┬áThe Washington Transportation Department says small businesses owned by white women are winning enough state highway contracts and no longer need a quota.

The department proposed this week to drop white women from the program that sets aside a percentage of contacts for ethnic minorities and women.

The Seattle Times reports public hearings will be held in Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane in January before the plan is submitted to the Federal Highway Administration.

By removing white women, the Transportation Department could reduce its goal for disadvantaged business enterprises from 16 to 12 percent.
