SEATTLE, Wash. – Officials at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo say they were issued a warning by the federal government after the death of a patas monkey.
According to KOMO-TV, the monkey, named Kyle, had already lost an arm to a previous bone infection, and was euthanized after he suffered a broken leg.
The break occurred in February as zoo staff attempted to transfer Kyle from his older exhibit into a new one.
Zoo officials say the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued the warning and urged the zoo to review and revise its animal-transfer protocol.
