BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Something that plagued Whatcom County and the rest of the country during the recession is easing.

Local bankruptcy filings are close to where they were in 2007… before the financial meltdown.

The number of filings for 2014 – 455 – is down nearly 19-percent from the previous year.

In 2007… before the recession… there were 405 filings.

The U.S. bankruptcy court in Seattle provides the data.
