BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham Police Department’s bomb squad safely detonated a homemade pipe bomb found on Ellis Street.

The Bellingham Herald reports a father and son were walking near the state Child Protection Services office in the 1700 block of Ellis Street Tuesday evening when they found the device.

They tried to take it apart before calling police.

A bomb squad robot was called in and the device was safely disposed of.
