Bellingham United opens season with win over Vancouver

Bellingham United F.C. opened the 2014 season with a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Victory Sunday at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

The Hammers scored late in the first half from a header off a corner kick by Oscar Jimenez and Andrew Weishaar sealed the victory with a goal in the 60th minute.

For his shutout victory goalkeeper Leo Cohen earned Hammer Man of the Match honors.

Sunday also marked Bellingham’s first match in the newly formed Evergreen Premier League. Bellingham previously played in the Pacific Coast Soccer League.

The Hammers return to action on Saturday, May 3 against the Spokane Shadow in Spokane.
