OLYMPIA, Wash. – A bill in the state House would stop cities and counties from banning legal marijuana businesses.

Representative David Sawyer, a Tacoma Democrat, says local pot bans amount to discrimination, and ignore the will of the people who voted to legalize recreational use of the drug.

State Attorney General Bob Ferguson recently said that cities and counties did have the option to ban pot businesses.

Lynden currently has a marijuana moratorium in place.

The biggest government in the state to declare itself is a no-pot-store zone is Pierce County, but Yakima and Clark counties say they’re not far behind.
