Firefighters gain better control of historic wildfire

OKANOGAN, Wash. – Crews are still fighting to contain fires in Chelan and Okanogan counties that have engulfed almost 263,000 acres.

The Mills Canyon Fire, Watermelon Hill Fire and Saddle Mountain Fire are fully contained.

The Chiwaukum Complex fire is 20 percent contained and involves over 12,000 acres.

The Carlton Complex fire is 52 percent contained and involves over 250,000 acres.

More than 3,800 firefighters and 25 aircraft have been assigned to the effort.
