Man found dead near fire on Britton road

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An elderly man is dead after a fire burned through a motor home and shop off the Mount Baker Highway.

Mitch Nolze with the Whatcom Fire Marshal’s office says the fire started just before 1:00 pm Monday.

It appears the man was burning brush piles and they spread to the motor home and shop.

The man was found next to the fire.

He didn’t have any obvious burns.

Investigators are looking into what caused his death.

 

The fire closed a section of the Mount Baker Highway near Britton Road for several hours.
