Proposed changes to Larrabee State Park

Proposed changes to Larrabee State Park

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – There may be some big changes coming to Larrabee State Park and the state wants to know what people think about them.

At the start of this year, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission began holding public meetings to decide the future of Larrabee State Park.

Tonight, the third stage of the process kicks off.

There will be a meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Fairhaven Public Library to present a preliminary plan.

In April, two different paths for the park were identified.

The first is emphasizing protecting natural and cultural resources.

The second is focusing on recreation.

The big differences between the two are whether or not to expand camping, trails and boat launches at the park.

The plan presented tonight should combine the best ideas from each of those focuses.

The park currently has 15 miles of trails and 85 campsites across its almost 3,000-acre property.
