Actor/filmmaker Paul Feig is reportedly in talks to write, produce and direct a female-driven reboot of the “Ghostbusters” franchise.

Ivan Reitman, who directed the 1984 spook-chasing film and its 1989 sequel, was originally slated to helm “Ghostbusters 3,” but stepped down from the job in March.

Reitman, who helped co-write the script for the latest film and had to tweak the storyline when original actor Harold Ramis, who was set for a small role in the movie, died in February, has stayed on as a producer, but executives at Sony Pictures are now hoping to bring Bridesmaids director Feig on board to re-write the script from Etan Cohen for a female-focused version of the classic movie franchise, according to The Wrap.com.

Ramis’ co-star Dan Aykroyd, who was also slated to return for “Ghostbusters 3,” would possibly stay on as a producer in Feig’s film, but it is unclear if he will appear on screen.

Fellow original “Ghostbusters” stars Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson have yet to sign on to the new project.
