Celebrated track star Torrin Lawrence has been killed in a tragic road accident in Georgia.

The 25-year-old athlete was driving in the early hours of Monday when one of his vehicle’s tires exploded, causing his car to grind to a halt.

He climbed out of the vehicle to call emergency services, but was fatally struck after a tractor trailer crashed into his wreck, sending it hurtling towards the sprinter.

Lawrence was a star sportsman at the University of Georgia and a key member of Team USA at the IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas in May, winning gold in the 4×400 relay.
