1939: “The Wizard of Oz” premiered in Hollywood.

1958: Buddy Holly and Maria Elena Santiago got married in a private ceremony at his parents’ home in Lubbock, Texas. Holly and Santiago had met only two months before. He died in a plane crash the following February.

1965: The Beatles performed before a capacity crowd at New York’s Shea Stadium, which, at the time, set a record for the largest audience to gather for a concert.

1969: The Woodstock Music and Arts Fair opened in upstate New York. During three days, dozens of acts performed before the crowd that had gathered on Max Yasgur’s farm.

Chiefs break Seahawks’ Guinness noise record

Kansas City Chiefs fans were loud Sunday, as they tried to break a world record for loudest staidum during their NFL football game against the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013.

After claiming the record last season, and then losing it to the Seattle Seahawks, the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs reclaimed the mark with a reading of 142.2 decibels in the first half of their game against the New England Patriots on Monday night.
