Explosion, Fire Rocks Lynden Milk Plant

LYNDEN, Wash. -- Less than two days after a dramatic blaze at the BP Cherry Point Refinery, an explosion and fire rocks Lynden’s Darigold Milk Plant.

The “Bellingham Herald” reports firefighters rescued a worker surrounded by flames at the top of a 90 ft. silo at the Depot Road facility just after midnight Sunday.

The man was treated for smoke inhalation at Peace Health Saint Joseph Medical Center and released.

His name was not given.

Lynden Fire Department officials tell the “Herald” an earlier fire in a milk dryer in the plant may have sparked the larger blaze.

Crews from the Lynden Fire Department, North Whatcom Fire and Rescue and Whatcom County Fire District 7 battled the blaze through the early morning hours Sunday.
