Whooping Cough Epidemic Spreads In Snohomish County

EVERETT, Wash. (Metro Networks Inc.)  -- Snohomish County's Whooping Cough epidemic keeps spreading, and the county now has the highest number of cases in the state.

Doctor Yuan-Po Tu with the Everett Clinic, tells heraldnet.com this is the biggest infectious disease epidemic since the H1N1 swine flu epidemic of 2009, with no peak, or end in sight.

There were 225 cases reported in the county last year.

So far this year, 105 cases have already been confirmed.

One adult and one infant have been hospitalized.

The disease continues to spread among teens and adults.

That's why health officials are urging adults, especially pregnant women and those who have close contact with babies, to get vaccinated.

The Snohomish Health District will provide another 320 free doses of the vaccine on February 25th at Group Health's Everett Medical Center.

Over 300 people were vaccinated at two free shot clinics earlier this month.
