Community Transit Riders Feel Force Of Service Cuts

EVERETT, Wash. (Metro Networks Inc.)  -- Community Transit riders are feeling the full pain of service cuts around Snohomish County the morning after the President's Day holiday.

The transit agency slashed 20-percent of its service and laid off 100 employees  yesterday.

That leaves riders scrambling to find new bus routes, walking further to transit stops and adjusting to new schedules.

Stephanie Jorgenson of Mountlake Terrace tells lynnwoodtoday.com the route that takes her to the Lynnwood Transit Center was dropped.

Now, she has to take the bus to one stop, then walk a few more blocks to the transit center to catch another bus to her destination.

The transit agency's board approved the latest round of cuts last year, in the face of plummeting sales tax revenues.

Officials say they are working with lawmakers to come up with new sources of revenue aside from the sales tax.
