WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- The Whatcom County Council may ask state officials to move forward with a possible exchange of parkland in the Lake Whatcom Watershed.
The council is set to discuss sending a letter to the Department of Natural Resources asking them to hand over control of 8700 acres of land to the county.
Council Member Carl Weimer says the land would become a low-impact park for the county that would also be low in cost...
Wiemer says the Mt. Baker School District would be reimbursed for any lost timber sales in the area if the exchange goes through.
The County Council meets tonight at seven at the Whatcom County Courthouse.
