BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A man who was just released from prison is back in custody along with several accomplices after allegedly breaking into a Maple Falls home and taking a one-year-old child.
The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office reports that 32-year-old Scott Vaughn kicked in the locked door of a loft cabin on Shamrock Road around 4:40 a.m. yesterday.
Scott entered the loft and immediately hit two male residents in the head with the metal pry bar.
Vaughn took the child from her crib, and threatened both men saying that if they reported the assault to the police he would return and kill them.
Vaughn is believed to be the child’s father. He was just released from an Oregon prison the day before, after serving a sentence for a parole violation.
The sheriff's office says Vaughn was assisted by his father, his sister and two other accomplices.
After changing vehicles, the suspects were stopped by Bellingham Police on Mount Baker Highway near Britton Road.
The child was recovered unharmed, and all five suspects were booked into Whatcom County Jail.
