Drummer Drew Hester quits Chicago before tour

Drummer Drew Hester has left the band Chicago as the rockers prepare to kick off their summer tour next month.

Hester joined the "Make Me Smile" hitmakers in January, 2009 after percussionist Tris Imboden was forced to quit the band due to health problems.

But the 42 year old has now announced plans to bow out and pursue a solo career, instead of trekking across America with his pals.

Walfredo Reyes, who's previously worked with Carlos Santana, has been hired to fill his place.

A post on the band's official website reads, "Hi All, Drew Hester notified Chicago that due to his primary passion of playing drums, he would leave the touring band to pursue this passion. Chicago has hired Walfredo Reyes on percussion, who will blow your mind, being a perfect fit for the touring band. In a short amount of time, he already fits the Chicago ensemble like a glove."

Reyes will make his official debut on June 13, the first date of the band's Chicago In Concert tour.
