OLYMPIA, Wash. (Metro) -- A state judge in Seattle rules that a law requiring that a two-thirds majority of the Legislature approve tax increases is unconstitutional.
King County Superior Court Judge Bruce Heller says the super-majority vote requirement, approved by Washington voters in 2010, violates the constitution's provision for a simple majority.
Attorney General Rob McKenna says he'll appeal Heller's decision to the state Supreme Court.
Washington Education Association president Mary Lindquist applauds the ruling, saying it will enable lawmakers to fully fund K-through-12 public schools.
