OLYMPIA, Wash. (Metro) -- About 220 state laws approved by the Washington Legislature earlier this year are now in effect.
One of those laws, which targets online want-ads for sexual services, is on hold by order of a federal judge.
The law is being challenged by Backpage.com, an online clearinghouse for escorts, which argues the state statute is trumped by federal law.
Other sex-trafficking laws that are officially on the books include one that allows authorities to obtain a forfeiture of property, such as automobiles, used by offenders to further sex-trafficking crimes.
