WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- Despite the shortage of sunshine in recent weeks, experts say Whatcom County's main strawberry crops will be ready to pick in about 10 days.
Randy Kraght, part owner and operator of Barbie's Berries, says early varieties of strawberries are available now, but northwest strains of Shuksan and Hood strawberries are a little late this year.
Kraght says he and other berry farmers are hoping for a sudden shift back to sunny weather as the fruit finishes.
He says red raspberries will be ripe in about three weeks, but the recent wet weather may have hurt local blueberry crops.
