WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Whatcom County is looking to acquire a parcel of property that could serve as a site for a new jail. 

For the past few years, Whatcom County and its cities have been grappling with an overcrowded jail population. 

The County is asking individuals or firms to submit proposals for specific properties to be considered. 

Officials say the long-range plan is to consolidate the county's two jails and construct a new unified jail facility.
