OLYMPIA, Wash. (Metro) -- Governor Christine Gregoire says debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami is expected to "dribble in" over the next few years and wash up onto the Washington coast.
The governor says the cleanup effort will be mostly be conducted by volunteers as the state doesn't have the resources to properly handle the entire job.
She's asking the federal government to provide financial assistance.
Gregoire says the state Department of Ecology and other agencies will work together on a plan to manage the debris and check it for radiation.
