Local Grocery Store Goes Solar: Largest In Whatcom County

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A local grocer says it’s now home to the largest solar energy array in Whatcom County.

Community food Co-op general manager Jim Ashby says crews installed a system that produces over 30 kilowatts on the roof of their Cordata location.

Ashby expects the project to save the store about $8,000 each year on its power bill, and it should pay for itself in eight to 10 years.

He also says the co-op’s downtown Bellingham store is installing more efficient lighting, which could save another $8,000.
