“America’s Most Wanted” Nabbed By Local Law Enforcement

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- A couple of America's most wanted fugitives were captured by local law enforcement yesterday morning.

A Whatcom County Sheriff's deputy spotted a car around 8 a.m. near Nugent's Corner on the Mt. Baker highway driven by a couple wanted for armed robbery and kidnapping in Oklahoma.

Sheriff's deputies along with Bellingham and Everson police officers closed parts of Smith and Hannegan roads for about 20 minutes due to the threat of an armed confrontation.

Sheriff Bill Elfo says this arrest marks the third time this week that dangerous fugitives have been captured in Whatcom County.

He says the car had three occupants inside, two of whom were 30-year-old Stephan McCoy and 28-year-old Jana Burns.

The two were recently profiled on "America's Most Wanted" and "Oklahoma's Most Wanted." Elfo says McCoy and Burns were arrested without incident.

They were booked into Whatcom County Jail and are awaiting extradition to Oklahoma.
