Green Day pen sad songs for Amy Winehouse, late pal
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has poured his heart into two songs on the group's upcoming triple-album release in a bid to cope with his grief following the deaths of Amy Winehouse and an unnamed pal, who committed suicide.
The "21 Guns" singer has confirmed his new tune Amy is a requiem to Winehouse, who died last summer, and another new tune, X Kid, deals with the tragic passing of a depressed friend.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "He was a beautiful person who wasn't growing up - and you didn't realise it until after the fact."
Armstrong admits the tragedy made him think about his own existence as a 40-something punk rocker: "I don't want to admit I'm a f**king adult, that I'm middle-aged. But I can admit I'm not a kid anymore. X Kid - that sounds a lot better."
