George Jones is to return to the stage following his hospitalization earlier this year.

The veteran musician, known as "The Possum," was initially treated for an upper respiratory tract infection by doctors in March and returned to hospital in Tennessee in May when he failed to recover from the condition.

Jones' wife took to her Facebook page on Thursday to tell his fans he has now been given the all-clear to return to work.

She writes, "George saw his doctor today and the doctor said it was time to hit the road and start singing to his fans. So, Possum will be seeing you all soon. He is so excited. Once again, we want to thank everyone for your prayers and love shown to us."
