Snohomish County Fire District Wants Fireworks Ban

EVERETT, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Snohomish County Fire District 1 commissioners think fireworks of any kind belong only in the hands of professionals.

Komonews.com reports they passed a resolution earlier this week, asking the county to ban all private fireworks sales and use.

They support public fireworks displays done by trained professionals.

SCFD1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes says emergency calls double around the 4th of July and fireworks have caused over three million dollars in since 2005.

They have also left 15 families homeless.

The cities of Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway, which contract with SCFD1 for service, already have fireworks bans in place.

The resolution also recommends that other fire districts and departments in Snohomish County join SCFD1 in its anti-fireworks resolution.
