'Green' Jobs Decline In Number During Recession

OLYMPIA, Wash.  (Metro)  -- The Washington Employment Security Department releases a study that shows the recession took a toll on "green" jobs, or jobs that involve developing or using environmentally friendly products.

The department says the study also supports earlier findings that there's minimal difference between a "green" economy and the regular economy.

The Employment Security Department's 2011 Green-Economy Jobs Report shows that among the industries that were surveyed in both 2009 and 2011, the number of green jobs declined by 18 percent.

The department says studies conducted in Washington and other states have identified only a few occupations that are uniquely green, including those of wind-turbine technician and solar-panel designer
