Despite Loss Of Fireworks, Fourth Of July Shows Will Go On

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash.  (Metro)  -- The Grand Old Fourth fireworks show on Bainbridge Island will go down in the history books as the show that almost wasn't.

The annual fireworks extravaganza over Eagle Harbor and another for neighboring Poulsbo went off with a bang prematurely last week, when a target shooter's bullet accidentally hit the fireworks container stored at a nearby auto wrecking yard.

The $80,000 loss isn't covered by insurance, but producer Robert Nitz of Aurora Fireworks was determined not to disappoint folks.

He emptied his wallet to purchase more fireworks, so the shows can go on.
