Recent Coal Train Wrecks Fuel Opposition To Coal Terminal

BELLINGHAM, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Two recent coal train accidents are adding to the worries of Whatcom County residents opposed to plans for a large proposed coal-exporting terminal in their backyard.

Stoney Bird with Coal Free Bellingham tells komonews.com that recent coal train derailments outside Chicago and in the Franklin County town of Mesa underscore the need for people to speak out against the project.

The Bellingham city council says it will let voters decide in November whether the terminal will be built and whether coal trains will run through their city.
