EDMONDS, Wash. (Metro) -- Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling worries about how trains from a proposed coal terminal near Bellingham will impact future ferry traffic and public safety in Edmonds. Passing trains already block waterfront access. Heraldnet.com reports the Gateway Pacific Terminal project by Seattle-based SSA Marine would add up to 18 coal trains passing through Edmonds every day on their way to Whatcom County. Earling and concerned community groups are hoping to draw more attention to the issue at an 11 a.m. "Don't Block Our Beach" rally Wednesday, at Brackett's Landing South, adjacent to the ferry dock.
